WELL FOR CULTURE is an alliance of like-minded Indigenous people from many Nations and all directions. They strive to lead healthy lifestyles because they recognize the importance of being physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually sound. They study and implement the health and wellness methods of our ancestors, meanwhile developing new approaches to contribute to this ancient and ongoing chain of knowledge. They are a continually evolving community, and welcome all who wish to contribute.
Chelsey is from the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa and Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North Dakota. She double majored in History and Native American Studies at Dartmouth College, concentrating on comparative histories of global Indigenous cultures and post-colonial theory. She later earned an M.S. in Digital Media at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. In her work as a journalist, she highlights activist movements and environmentalism as it relates to wellness and Native culture. Chelsey is passionate about motivating youth to stay active and healthy in order to build mental-physical-spiritual strength.
Thosh was raised in Salt River, Arizona. He works as a photographer and serves as a board member for the Native Wellness Institute. He draws strength and motivation from the spiritual cultural practices of our ancestral people, and recognizes the inherent physical durability embodied by them. Thosh uses this understanding as the basis to encourage all to "Indigenize" fitness and diet as he contributes to the growing wellness movement across Native America in a way that is holistic and culturally appropriate.
